Instead, they were custom-orders placed by some of the brand’s most loyal customers. A legendary watch long known to the market – and widely expected to reemerge – is finally coming to market. The one-off Patek Philippe ref. 3448 without a moon phase will be offered by Christie’s during its upcoming Hong Kong watch auction on May 22, 2021. The display from the 1526 was used again and other variations of the watch were also made, including the 3448 “Senza Luna”, of which there are only six examples known.These seven fabled and enigmatic watches have become known as ‘Senza Luna’ or ‘Without Moon’. All the ‘Senza Luna’ 3448s were originally made with the moon phase function and aperture but were subsequently remodelled in Patek Philippe’s workshops either by special request or as prototypes.
The confirmed proof from Patek Philippe of the Senza Luna legend led to a fever pitch this past summer with the revealing of the Extract from the Archives of the white gold 3448 Senza Luna movement no. 1’119’202 at the Christie’s Patek Philippe exhibition in New York.
